About me

Highly accomplished, driven and results-oriented product/project management professional and systems/business analyst with over 25 years of experience providing outstanding product/project management in private and public sector organizations.

History of spearheading complex projects and managing each from inception to completion within the time frame and budget. A dynamic leader with a strong track record of success building and directing teams to pull resources, control quality, solve problems and conflict management expertise, monitor progress, and meet and exceed established goals. Effective team coach and mentor. Extensive technical skills as well as strategic planning, financial management.

To me, that's the most exciting question imaginable. What do we need that we don't have? How can we realize our potential? What will it take to solve important problems and improve people's lives?

What should exist, and how might we create it-right now?

I have always been captivated by new ideas that answer these questions. From technology to science to music to art, I'm inspired by those who've blurred the boundaries, who've looked at the possibilities, and said, "What if...?"

In my own work, I've tried to anticipate what's coming over the horizon, to hasten its arrival, and to apply it to people's lives in a meaningful way. Challenges inspire me, whether it's pushing further into space than any private citizen ever has, as with Space Ship One or into the inner reaches of the human mind, as with the Bassem Brain Atlas initiative. The varied possibilities of the universe have dazzled me since I was a child, and they continue to drive my work, my investments, and my philanthropy.

I hope you believe, as I do, in the inexhaustible ability of human beings to find answers to problems, to create works of beauty and originality, and to craft vital new ideas inspired by those who've gone before. The possible is constantly being redefined, and I care deeply about helping humanity move forward.

To me, there's nothing more gratifying than that.

Short story

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you."

The carpenter was shocked!

What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently.

But, you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your attitude, and the choices you make today, help build the "house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely!
